Teaching Strategies


• The teacher needs to make the classroom a safe community building environment, that encourage diverse learning needs, styles and accommodations

• The environment needs to be visually stimulating, but not to overwhelming to distract students

• Provide teacher structured activities of their choice, these students need support to begin and complete a task

• Teacher can assist in teaching life skills such as organization which will overall assist the student in becoming successful in their assignment and at home

• When starting an activity state behavioural expectation and consequence prior to beginning activity

• Incorporate the Arts such as songs and drama into the curriculum, this allows the student to move around

• When lesson plan it is important to incorporate physical breaks during activities, this can be linked to the physical activity
